How to speed up Slow Lion startup | Fix Slow Mac Lion Startup

Despite of our best efforts to keep our Mac fast, we may fail to do so. Filling up of disk space, slowing down a Mac speed , slow Mac startup etc. are some issues being faced by every Mac user. If this is a problem, there is a solution too.
Although there is no definitive cure for making your Mac as fast as day one but, some basic things can help to reclaim some valuable disk space, remove some useless clutter and ultimately speed up your Mac. Here are few tips to keep your Mac clean and speedup Mac startup
  • Keep your Startup Items clean - If you are facing a slow Mac then heres a tip: open your System Preferences and click accounts. Here, enter your user name and get a list of startup items. Sometimes some unwanted applications get enlisted here. We need to remove those unnecessary Mac applications to speed up your Mac boot time.
  • Clean Up Mac Desktop - If your desktop is full of icons, your Mac can suffer from a slow Mac behavior. Its important to note that Mac OS X treats every icon on desktop as its own window. Handling them incurs a small memory hit. Although it won't be an issue for many Mac users, but if one has hundreds of icons, moving them to other locations might help them.
  • Fonts - Although not very significantly but deleting the corrupt fonts will make your Mac more stable. Open up Font Book, select all the fonts in the Font list and choose File >> Validate Fonts. Font Book will open a new window with icons to show font's status. If a font is corrupt, select it and click on the Remove Checked button. Its important to note here that Font Book can't repair corrupted fonts.
  • Delete Universal binaries – The universal binaries are used to make the Mac applications compatible at both Intel and PowerPC. But, if a user works only on either of Intel and PowerPC then the binaries for other one are absolutely useless for them. Such useless data must be deleted in order to create free space in Mac disk.
