Defragment Mac drive to run it faster as before

When you are working on Mac, you may experience a slow Mac performance waiting for that spinning ball so long. Opening, copying, moving and other editing tasks get slower and slower. There may be other reasons for it but fragmentation is a prominent one. A fragmented Mac drive needs to be defragged with disk defragmenting tool.

Everyday we create new files, modify existing ones, delete unwanted files from the system. When we do so the Mac OS looks for a free contiguous memory location and stores the file there. Here, its important to note that a 'contiguous' memory location on hard drive means a collection of continuous free bytes on the hard drive memory.

When files are deleted, a free space (equal to the size of file) becomes available to be alloted. Its not necessary that these free spaces remain continuous. In such cases, it becomes difficult for the OS to find a contiguous memory location for storing a new file. Now, the OS simply divides the file into logical pieces and store them in different free memory spaces. These logical pieces are called fragments.

If a file is saved in a contiguous memory locations, it can be read more fastly than a fragmented one. So, for fast accessibility of data, the Mac drive needs to be defragmented. But, Mac does not have any defragmenting utility and you need to opt for any third-party utility for the same.

There is no option to defrag Mac disk in Apple. But there is need to worry as there are many third party Mac defragmenting tools available in market. Stellar Drive Defrag is one of them which provides various options to Defrag Mac drives or individual files. Moreover, these options are quite interactive and simple to use, even for a new Mac user.
